Ringleader

I’ve led teams of a hundred, facilitated conversations between small groups, let people go, and everything in between. I’ve found the most success when sharing a purpose and vision with a team then letting everyone get to work while coordinating efforts so nobody feels their time is wasted.

starbucks “summer game”

Leading a team of 10+ writers, designers, UXers, creative technologists and working with external game designers, we created everything from the overall story and strategy, to mechanics, game structure, design, and rules.

Starbucks Summer Game was released to 75 mil Starbucks customers in the US and drove impressive incremental purchases during its run. It was even brought back the following year.

dow “giant chalkboard”

When the rest of my team called dibs to not do math as an adult, I jumped at the chance to dust off an old skill. Working backwards from the solution, I was not only writing in numbers, but also served as the liason between mathematicians, scientists and our creative team. Translating creative work into math and back again to have it double-checked. Because the last thing you want is to have someone say “it’s actually 7 billion and 1.”

All with only 96 hours to go from concept to production.

ted-ed “the power of simple words”

When TED-Ed wanted to launch their lessons, I was asked to write the first video on Language. To date, it’s helped nearly 450k folks learn the power of simple words, but getting a shout-out in Brain Pickings was by far the best part.

camp promise culture

Under my leadership in the 9 years after starting Camp Promise, the program grew to 3 locations across the country, 1.5 full-time staff members, and hundreds of applicants each year. At the root of all of the success was the culture we created.

Through the extensive 1-day training program I helped design and implement, we taught first-time volunteers how to provide the 24-hour personal care for a camper with muscular dystrophy and work together as a team with a shared vision: to create the safety for our campers to be limitless.

This encourages staff to look for ways to “say yes” and challenges them to get creative with adapting activities safely. This has given us one of the most robust activity calendars for a program of its type.

Past events have included a wheelchair accessible hot air balloon, VR rollercoaster, blow dart archery, and square dancing.
